I simply want to keep my voice plan the same and choose the new M2M. The M2M feature shows up under our family unlimited messaging thus I was assuming and hoping the voice plan rollover mins would remain unchanged.
I didn't lose any of my roll-over minutes. I have ~1200 and am on the 450 individual plan.

I have .Mac, but I probably won't be using this feature, disregarding some rare exceptions.
The reason: I prefer using the old Apple paradigm of "one application - one task". Yeah, I know, I like my habits from the outdated old century. I've never completely felt comfortable with web applications, since they don't have keyboard shortcuts that are analogous to the rest of the system. But with more and more applications moving to the web, I admit that I'm fighting a losing battle.
Yes, I'm aware that gmail and .mac have well-functioning autosave features, but that doesn't comfort me well when I try to move to the beginning of a line using command-leftarrow and end up wasting my concentration on the whole "gah! my document disappeared!"-idea. And I haven't even begun talking about command-Q
Visionaries have been talking about the browser replacing the OS as our main UI for many years, but I still don't think the conventions are mature enough for [me, at least] to do my serious tasks in browsers - yet.

Its funny how every position at Apple is either a Vice President or Senior Vice President of something... hehe..
That's because, One) All the people you hear about are department heads, and when you're in charge of a segment of a large corporation you're typically a Vice President, and Two) Apple doesn't just throw people into a position as a filler. When you are put in charge of a division of Apple, you're there because you've done good things in the past and they expect you to be there for the long haul.

All this patent infringement is a total joke.
I dont blame Apple suing Samsung and I dont blame Samsung suing Apple.
You know who should be blamed?
The US patent office. They are becoming more retarded every year. A girl got a patent on a specific way to "swing the swing." US patents are just like worthless papers that pave the way to sue the crap out of each other.
In the end, AAPL wont win and neither will SM. only the lawyers.

The whole notion that Europeans drive smaller cars because their streets are narrow is partially myth. Don't forget - Europe has modern cities with divided highways too, just like the US does. It is true that many cities and towns in Europe are more compact because of their age (Americans who live in certain parts of Boston or Philadelphia will be familiar with what 17th century streets look like). But the smaller size of cars in Europe is more closely related to the austerity of the post-WWII years setting a standard of smaller cars, fuel prices being higher, and higher taxes for larger cars.
Sat in the new Passat at the NAIAS this weekend because of this thread. Its a nice car, roomy, comfortable, kind of "mean" looking on the outside. I liked it.
I won't be able to look at one in the flesh till they hit dealers. The success of the new Passat will depend on how many new buyers Volkswagen lures, since that was the purpose of the "decontenting".
As an aside, I wish they'd bring the Golf GTD over here. I would be strongly tempted to buy one.

There's 2 jailbreak apps for this. One creates a daemon that constantly deletes the location files. Another onewipes out the location history and then does a wipeout of each location currently.
A lot of people are saying this is no big deal. According to the hacker that found this out, a hacker can hack onto the computer that the backup is located on and find out all of your locations.
All the people saying, "I don't sell drugs so I have nothing to worry about" or "I have nothing to hide" are probably the same people who voted for homeland security.......and we can all see how good that was...NOT.
If a hacker can hack into your computer, then the first thing you need to do is not worry about this file in the iPhone backup, but worry about the fact that a hacker can hack into your computer. Get some perspective, man. If someone hacks into your computer, you should first worry about your emails being read. The hacker can go to amazon, type in your user name, "forgot password", they send it to your email address, the hacker reads it, changes the details, and orders a few big TVs on your credit card. Or they get your online banking details and empty your account. Companies have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars that way.
If a hacker can get your iPhone, or your iPhone backup, then again the first thing you need to worry about is not this file, but all the information that you stored yourself. Again, email. Web history. Address book.
The "I sell no drugs..." line is a strawman. People don't have to not worry because they are not selling drugs; for example I found by complete accident what Christmas present my wife had bought for me online, which spoilt the surprise for me (I didn't tell her, obviously). So privacy is important for completely legal and positive things like buying Christmas presents.
The point here is that this file is not something you need to worry about; in the list of things to worry about it is very, very, very far at the end of the list. If you are a drug dealer, there is very little that police could do with this file. Especially since according to what Apple has now said, it would be completely useless as evidence against you. There is a lot that they can learn from your address book, phone numbers, emails, etc., and that is what you should worry about whether you are a drug dealer, or a law obiding citizen.
So you go with the company that has shown that is will look for any way to make an extra buck.
I trust Google a hell of a lot more than Apple.
Google gives out the location of your WiFi router to anyone who knows the MAC address, so if you moved to get away from a stalker, or if you are in witness protection, then you better leave your old router at home. Try this website:
http://samy.pl/androidmap/
This is fortunately not something that _I_ have to worry about, but for some people this would be a real risk. The site locates my router within 100m and tells the world about it. It does that with every router, whether you have a phone or not. Apple keeps their database safe from hackers, Google doesn't.

This is the issue with a yearly product cycle. People begin to understand when that cycle starts over, avoid new purchases of the product, and even tell their friends and family to not buy right now.
You're right, remember the whole 3gs thing after the iPhone 4 was leaked? Sales fell through the floor cuz everyone just wanted the 4 and they knew it'd be releases really soon thanks to the release cycle.

Patents like this are so annoying
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7,069,055.PN.&OS=PN/7,069,055&RS=PN/7,069,055
So basically Samsung has patented: A clock with multiple time zones in a mobile phone.
How on Earth is a patent like that supposed to promote innovation?
(the original reason we got the patent system back some centuries ago)
Also, this one just makes me want to tear my hair out
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=7,009,626.PN.&OS=PN/7,009,626&RS=PN/7,009,626
Apple will surely manage this, but what about the independent developer with no huge pile of cash to throw at some lawyers? THAT is the problem here.. :(

Apple really wants to squeeze out all potential sales of the iPhone 4 up until the last minute because they lost big time in 3GS sales for nearly 2 months after the leaked/stolen iPhone 4 incident.
I really hope that they will still push out the iPhone 5 in June despite all the rumors that it will be postponed to September.
That's what I'm hoping too for when my 3GS contract expires this summer.
But a white iPhone 4? No thanks Apple.

Sorry if its been posted, i couldn't find it. so i have an old Digital audio powermac g4 and for some reason it wont boot to the os, it makes a loud beep (not the startup chime) the fans spin up and the hard drive spins, however if you plug a screen into the computer the screen goes into sleep mode. the power light just blinks on and off too, like once every second. Im dont know what is wrong with it.

At this point, I couldn't really care less about Blu Ray or HD-DVD. I'd be more excited if Apple included Lightscribe or equivalent capability in their drives. Unlabeled discs are piled high on my desk.Get a Sharpie. :D

My son is constantly using my iPod Touch to play games with, but I often worry about accidental drops and what not. I thought this was a great article over at iPhoneandkids.com that outlines kids iPod and iPhone accessories:

Do you have any other favorite accessories that your kids use?

i'm a webdesigner and totally agree with psychometry.
the new textarea feature is the worst way to resolve one of safari worst layout problems. current textarea doesn't show the scrollbars everytime it's necessary and sometimes resizes horizontaly while you're typing, damaging some page layouts.
if the new feature allows users to resize both verticaly and horizontaly it's probably a bad sollution apple found to the scroll problem.
if you don't design pages you may not understand, but sometimes its necessary to fix a size to a textarea and other components (height and width), otherwise it will push other elements and images would look like a puzzle. fixing size is one of the solutions to make pages working in different browsers, once each one show form elements diffrently.
even if the resize feature doesn't push other elements, override them would be terrible as well. if you have links and other text fields for example, how would it behave if you use tab key to swich field in a form?
